Highlights for Friday, July 11

Stampede celebrates Quebec City's 400th anniversary

Two distinct cultures. One amazing celebration. On Friday, the Calgary Stampede will pay homage to Quebec City as it marks its 400th anniversary. Stampede guests will enjoy special festivities to celebrate this historic occasion.

On Parlez-vous Yahoo? Day, visitors to the Park will have a chance to taste authentic Quebec foods and take in French-Canadian entertainment with the hub of activity taking place at Weadickville. A sampling of some of the treats available include poutine, maple bacon burgers, maple fudge and beef tourtiere. Visitors will also want to enter their name to win a trip to Quebec City courtesy of Westjet.

Stampede partners with Canadian Heritage

The Honourable Josee Verner, Minister of Canadian Heritage, Status of Women and Official Languages, will hold a news conference to announce a partnership with the Calgary Stampede in recognizing and celebrating the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City. The news conference will begin at 11:30 a.m. in Weadickville.

A tribute to horse power

Working cow horses thrill audiences with skills originating from Spanish cowboys in the 1700s. Horse and rider compete in reining, cutting and fencing cows in a presentation of elegance and finesse. The Working Cow Horse Classic competition starts at 11 a.m. in the Big Top.

Beef 101

City slickers may not know the difference between an Angus, Hereford or a Galloway, but members of the beef industry are here and ready to explain. The Beef Cattle Showcase is an up-close experience with beef cattle and producers. The showcase is open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Main Barn, Agriculture Building.

Bonhomme to meet The Young Canadians

Quebec icon, Bonhomme, in a special visit to the Stampede, will bring greetings and gifts to The Young Canadians at 7 p.m. in the junior dressing area, at the north end of the Grandstand.
